U.S. Government Transfers $23,000 in Bitcoin from Seized-Funds Wallet
The U.S. government has made its first recorded Bitcoin transfer since November 2025, moving $23,000 from a seized-funds wallet labeled 'Miguel Villanueva Seized Funds'.
On Tuesday, three transactions were sent to newly created addresses with no prior transaction history, completely draining the originating wallet. The transfers were flagged by blockchain data from Arkham Intelligence.
The U.S. government currently holds approximately 328,000 BTC valued at over $22 billion, making it one of the largest known Bitcoin holders globally.
Under the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve policy established by executive order, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated in January that the administration intends to halt routine sales of seized Bitcoin and retain forfeited assets on the government's balance sheet. Tuesday's small transfer does not contradict this policy, given no exchange routing has been identified.
