U.S. Investors Unimpressed by 'Digital Gold' Narrative for Bitcoin
A recent survey conducted by the Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI) has found that describing Bitcoin as 'digital gold' fails to persuade U.S. investors. The study, which involved three stages of research from March to June 2026, polled over 1,500 registered voters and conducted focus groups with individuals who did not own Bitcoin but were likely to buy it.
The survey found that the most important factor related to Bitcoin was control, followed by proven performance, security, accessibility, and ease of use. Phrases such as 'I decide how much to invest' or 'I can track transactions myself' left a strong impression on respondents.
In contrast, the 'digital gold' narrative did not resonate with U.S. investors. The research also showed that potential buyers preferred explanations from ordinary people with real ownership experience, such as friends, family, and financial professionals, over corporate promotional language.
