U.S. Lawmakers at Impasse Over Stalled Crypto Clarity Act
U.S. lawmakers are at an impasse over the stalled Crypto Clarity Act, which aims to provide regulatory clarity for cryptocurrencies, decentralized finance (DeFi), and exchanges. Republicans continue to blame Democrats for blocking the bipartisan bill, citing concerns that the U.S. will fall behind other countries in digital asset regulation.
According to Senator Bill Hagerty, 'We're going to have to pass the Clarity Act.' He warned that failing to do so would allow the U.S. to lag behind the rest of the world in the digital assets arena. The bill has been stuck in a deadlock for much of 2026, with Democrats raising concerns over wording and stablecoin yield.
An updated July draft of the bill addresses ethics concerns by banning government officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto. Despite this, pro-crypto Senator Cynthia Lummis claims that Democrats are deliberately holding back the bill.
