U.S. Marshals Sell Seized Anthropic Shares Worth Billions to Existing Investors
Former FTX executives Caroline Ellison and Nishad Singh invested $50 million in Anthropic's Series B financing in March 2022. The U.S. Marshals Service sold their seized shares, worth between $2.62 billion and $5.03 billion, to existing investors in 2025.
The sale was not publicly confirmed by the Marshals Service, which declined to discuss the transaction. A Justice Department representative said asset-sale and victim-compensation information is confidential, but prioritizes victim compensation from forfeiture.
Ellison and Singh pleaded guilty to criminal charges related to the FTX fraud case and cooperated with prosecutors, testifying against founder Sam Bankman-Fried. They were sentenced to forfeit assets, including their personal Anthropic holdings.
