U.S. National Debt Surpasses $39 Trillion Amid Growing Liquidity and Bitcoin Correlations
The U.S. national debt has surpassed $39 trillion, growing at approximately $5 billion per day, according to recent reports.
As of March 2026, this trajectory places the $40 trillion milestone within reach before the end of September 2026.
Treasury General Account drawdowns during past debt ceiling standoffs have injected liquidity into financial markets and correlated with Bitcoin price rallies.
Researcher Cauê Oliveira at BlockTrends explained that these drawdowns occur when Congress reinstates the debt ceiling, forcing the Treasury to spend down existing funds rather than issuing new bonds.
This process increases commercial bank reserves, expanding lending capacity across the financial system and benefiting risk assets like Bitcoin.
