U.S. Strategic $BTC Reserve Holds Key to Bitcoin's Future Growth
The U.S. remains at the forefront of Bitcoin adoption and investment, with its Strategic $BTC Reserve serving as a key example. The reserve was established in March 2025 through an executive order, which folded BTC seized through criminal and civil forfeiture into a permanent Treasury holding.
According to government estimates, the current holdings stand at around 328,000 BTC, valued between $23 to $25 billion. This surpasses estimated holdings of China and the UK, making the U.S. the largest known sovereign holder of Bitcoin.
The reserve is not the only indicator of the U.S.'s commitment to Bitcoin. Retail adoption has grown significantly, with around 49.6 million American adults, approximately 18.6% of the adult population, now holding Bitcoins. This is more than the number of Americans who own gold.
Legislative efforts are also underway to build on this base. The BITCOIN Act and the American Reserve Modernization Act aim to target up to one million BTC over five years through budget-neutral methods. These bills remain pending in Congress.
