UAE Cemented as Global Crypto Hub, Ranks Second Globally
The UAE has solidified its position as a global cryptocurrency hub by ranking second in the Henley & Partners Cryptocurrency Adoption Index 2026, up from fifth place last year. The country scored 46.4 out of 60 points overall and achieved a perfect score in the 'Tax Attractiveness' criterion.
The UAE's success is driven primarily by its favorable tax system, which does not impose taxes on trading, holding, or mining cryptocurrencies, making it an attractive environment for investors and digital wealth owners. The country also has a high ranking in innovation and technology, with a score of 8.9 out of 10 in this criterion.
The Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) plays a crucial role in the UAE's regulatory framework, providing a supportive environment for the cryptocurrency and digital asset sector. The Digital Dirham project is another key initiative that aims to promote the adoption of cryptocurrencies in the country.
