UAE Institutions Get Institutional Spot Trading via Standard Chartered
Standard Chartered has entered the UAE market by offering institutional spot trading in Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH). This makes it the first Global Systemically Important Bank (G-SIB) to provide this service in the UAE. The bank's DIFC-regulated subsidiary will facilitate the trades, which can be settled through either an external custodian or Standard Chartered's digital asset custody solution.
The new service is part of Standard Chartered's digital asset strategy, which includes digital asset custody and tokenization. This move strengthens the bank's crypto offering and appeals to institutional investors seeking regulated infrastructure. The UAE has created policies and laws for virtual assets, making it an attractive location for digital asset companies and exchanges.
The launch of direct BTC and ETH spot execution from a G-SIB represents another traditional finance entrance into the markets, bridging the gap between banking infrastructure and digital assets.
