UAE Migrates National Digital Identity Platform to Avalanche Blockchain
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has chosen Avalanche to upgrade its national digital identity platform, UAEPASS. The system handles data for 12.5 million citizens and is used by government and private entities. By migrating to Avalanche's layer 1 blockchain, the UAE aims to strengthen the scalability and performance needed to support continued growth of digital identity and verifiable documents.
John Nahas, Chief Business Officer at Ava Labs, emphasized the importance of reliability in a digital identity-based system. He stated that 'The UAE is building digital services people use every day, and Avalanche is designed for exactly that kind of environment.'
Avalanche explains that this move to an Avax-powered dedicated L1 blockchain lets the system manage only UAE-related traffic on its own network, allowing it to enjoy predictable performance. The TDRA oversees the UAEPASS Digital Vault ecosystem, setting the terms for the infrastructure and who accesses and manages it.
