UAE Migrates National Digital Identity Platform to Avalanche Blockchain
The United Arab Emirates is upgrading its blockchain infrastructure to support UAEPASS, its national digital identity platform. The system will now run on Avalanche's Layer 1 (L1) blockchain, which was chosen for its high-performance capabilities and ability to handle growing demand.
UAEPASS serves over 12.5 million users, including citizens, residents, and visitors, and provides access to more than 15,000 public and private sector services. The system's Digital Vault feature enables users to store, manage, and share verified documents securely with institutions that require them.
The migration to Avalanche is expected to give UAEPASS the infrastructure needed to handle increasing demand and maintain public trust for the coming years. Saeed Belhoul, Dgov Operations Director at TDRA, stated that the Digital Vault is now a pivotal part of daily life in the country and emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring both security and scalability.
Avalanche's L1 blockchain will provide a dedicated network for UAEPASS, separate from public blockchains. This allows for increased oversight and flexibility as the system evolves.
