UAE Royal Family Invests in Trump-Linked Trust Bank Amid Regulatory Approval
The UAE Royal Family has invested in World Liberty Trust Company (WLTC Holdings), the parent company of proposed trust bank World Liberty Financial, amidst controversy surrounding potential conflicts of interest. According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, an investment group led by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's national security adviser, holds 49% of WLTC Holdings.
This stake is through StringZ Holding RSC, which channels the sheikh's investment interests. The Trump family-connected entity controls an additional 38% interest in WLTC Holdings.
The proposed trust bank would manage issuance, redemption, and custody services for the USD1 stablecoin, with a market capitalization of approximately $4 billion. World Liberty Trust Company received preliminary conditional approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) on August 14, but must still satisfy pre-opening conditions to commence operations.
Senate Democrats have called for oversight hearings to examine the deal and potential influence on US policy decisions regarding the UAE. The White House has dismissed conflict-of-interest allegations, stating that 'no conflicts of interest' exist and emphasizing President Trump's commitment to the American public's interests.
