UAE Taps Avalanche Blockchain for National Digital Identity System
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has partnered with Ava Labs and consultancy firm Deca4 to integrate Avalanche blockchain technology into its national digital identity system, UAE PASS. The integration will power the Digital Vault inside UAE PASS, allowing users to securely store, request, and share verified government documents.
UAE PASS serves over 12.5 million citizens, residents, and visitors, providing access to more than 15,000 services across 350 government and private sector entities. The integration aims to make document verification easier while reducing the need for manual checks.
The UAE will use a dedicated Avalanche L1 (Level 1) blockchain network, giving the government greater control over network access and configuration. When a user shares a document, such as a trade license or academic certificate, the blockchain can verify whether it is genuine or not.
Avalanche has called this integration 'one of the largest real-world, nation-state use cases for public blockchain infrastructure to date.'
