Uber Eyes Stablecoins for Cross-Border Payments Amid Q3 Growth Spurt
Uber's Q3 gross bookings are expected to reach between $58.25 billion and $60.25 billion, representing a significant acceleration in growth. This guidance arrives as CEO Dara Khosrowshahi revealed that the company is evaluating stablecoins for international settlements and payments, which could reduce foreign exchange costs.
The company's annualized gross bookings run-rate now exceeds $215 billion, with Q1 2026 posting $53.7 billion in gross bookings, a 25% year-over-year growth rate. In Q2 2026, the company guided at $56.25 billion to $57.75 billion, representing 18% to 22% growth on a constant-currency basis.
Khosrowshahi's comment about evaluating stablecoins for cross-border payments is not a vague expression of interest in blockchain technology, but rather a targeted assessment of whether dollar-pegged digital tokens can solve the real problem of foreign exchange costs. This could be a significant development for the stablecoin industry, with Uber processing over $50 billion per quarter in gross bookings.
