Ubisoft Axes Champions Tactics Amid Struggling Player Base
Ubisoft has made the decision to shut down Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles on October 30, marking the end of its short-lived run. The game, a turn-based tactical RPG set in the dark fantasy world of Grimoria, never gained traction despite being reworked into a free-to-play version.
The title's Web3 features were phased out starting in May 2026 due to infrastructure changes, and by then, in-app purchases had already been disabled. This move is not unexpected, given the game's struggles to build a lasting player base, even with its unique digital collectible Champions on the Oasys blockchain.
The shutdown comes as part of Ubisoft's efforts to streamline operations, which have included substantial layoffs and studio closures. The decision reflects both the game's internal problems and the company's need to cut costs in a challenging market.
