Ubisoft Axes NFT Game Amid Poor Player Reception
Ubisoft has announced that its NFT-based tactics game, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, will be shutting down on October 30. The game was launched in October 2024 as a 'Web3 competitive turn-based RPG,' with players fielding teams of three characters and each unit being an NFT minted and traded on the Oasys blockchain for cash or OAS cryptocurrency.
The game's blockchain functionality was removed in May, but this did not bring back players. A free-to-play version without the blockchain, Champions Tactics Reforged, was released on Steam in 2025 to mixed reviews, with Kotaku stating that 'the audience didn't show up.'
Ubisoft is now steering players towards Might and Magic Fates, a Hearthstone-style collectible card game in early access since February. The company is offering exclusive in-game rewards for making the switch.
