Ubisoft's Web3-enabled NFT strategy game Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles is shutting down. This decision comes after Ubisoft announced in May that it was transitioning the game away from Web3 functionality.

The game, which came out in 2024, allowed players to mint and trade battle units on a blockchain marketplace for digital currency. However, this concept peaked during the NFT craze of 2021, before fizzling out in 2022.

Ubisoft is attempting to funnel current Champions Tactics players to another game called Might and Magic Fates by offering in-game rewards. This new game is a deckbuilder, similar to Hearthstone, where players can buy and sell cards with cash or crypto.

The official Discord for the game has announced that the servers will officially shut down on October 30. Even fans of the game had long suspected something like this was coming, given Ubisoft's previous announcement in May.
