UBS Invests Heavily in BlackRock Bitcoin ETF, Revealing Crypto Exposure Strategy

Switzerland's largest bank, UBS, has significantly increased its holdings in BlackRock's flagship Bitcoin ETF, IBIT. According to a recent SEC filing, UBS now holds 2.5 million shares of IBIT, with a total value exceeding $83.2 million.

This move is part of a broader trend of institutional investment in cryptocurrency. The bank has been steadily building its position since the SEC approved the ETF in January 2024, confirming a methodical accumulation strategy rather than an opportunistic bet.

UBS's strategy goes beyond IBIT, with stakes in other premium income-generating Bitcoin ETFs, bringing its total exposure to crypto ETFs to approximately $90 million. The bank also holds a stake in American Bitcoin Corp., the mining company backed by Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., worth approximately $1.5 million.

This diversified portfolio reflects genuine conviction in the asset class, rather than mere regulatory compliance. UBS is actively building a structured offering around Bitcoin, tailored to its high-net-worth clientele.
