UK Churches Adopt Bitcoin Donations with Caution
A small number of UK churches are starting to accept bitcoin donations, but regulatory and legal issues are causing most to stay away.
Claygate Church in England's south coast declared it would accept bitcoin as a donation this summer, with elder Sean Theunissen saying the church 'wants to support projects going on in different places'.
The Bible speaks against corruption and injustice, and Theunissen believes Bitcoin is trying to address these issues in traditional monetary systems. However, UK churches are approaching cryptocurrencies with caution, with many fundraisers and treasurers expressing scepticism about their use.
The Church of England's spokesperson said they were watching developments 'with interest,' but acknowledged that accepting cryptocurrency donations would need to align with regulatory requirements.
