UK Crypto Market Sees £1.38 Billion in Reported Gains
The UK's crypto market has seen significant gains in recent years, with £1.38 billion reported by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) in the 2024 to 2025 tax year.
Of this total, 240 individuals who each reported more than £1 million in gains accounted for over half of it at £717 million.
The figures are based on data from a dedicated crypto section added to Self Assessment returns and mark the first time HMRC has published crypto-specific Capital Gains Tax data.
This is significant as it gives HMRC a baseline before new reporting rules begin supplying them with information directly from crypto providers for the 2024 to 2025 tax year.
