Share

According to HMRC's Capital Gains Tax statistics, 240 individuals reported over £1 million in capital gains from cryptoassets between April 2024 and March 2025. These gains totalled a staggering £717 million.

The data is significant because it marks the first time HMRC has published figures on cryptoasset gains at this level of detail. The statistics also reveal that 17,600 individuals made disposals of cryptoassets liable to Capital Gains Tax during this period, reporting disposal proceeds of £13.8 billion and gains of £1.38 billion.

The average gain per individual was £78,000. Notably, around 87% of those who reported gains were male, while 13% were female.
