UK Crypto Millionaires Hold 52% of Sector Gains
The UK's tax authority, HMRC, has released new data revealing that just 240 crypto investors in the country have generated £717M in profits, accounting for over half of the sector's total reported capital gains.
This concentration of wealth among a small group of high-income earners is starkly evident from the figures, which show that these 240 individuals made up only 1.4% of the 17,600 people who declared taxable disposals of crypto assets during the 2024/2025 period.
The data also highlights the demographic profile of crypto investors in the UK, with approximately 87% of those reporting crypto assets being men and 54% aged between 25 and 44. This is significantly younger than the typical taxpayer declaring other forms of capital gains.
The release of these statistics coincides with a tightening of tax controls across the sector, with HMRC issuing roughly 81,000 warning letters to individuals suspected of failing to properly declare their digital asset obligations.
