UK Crypto Millionaires Revealed as HMRC Breaks Down First Official Tax Data
The UK's HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has released its first official breakdown of cryptocurrency gains, revealing that 240 people declared over £1 million ($1.35 million) in cryptoasset gains for the 2024 to 2025 tax year.
These individuals reported a total of £717 million ($974 million) in gains, which accounts for just over half of all crypto gains declared that year. The wider pool of crypto investors saw 17,600 people make disposals liable for Capital Gains Tax (CGT), with disposal proceeds totaling £13.8 billion ($18.8 billion).
Tax authorities have been cracking down on cryptoassets, and the UK is no exception. According to Chainalysis, the country's taxable crypto activity reached $19.4 billion in 2025, ranking it third globally behind only the US and China.
