UK Crypto Tax Data Reveals Surge in Gains and Disposals
The UK government has released data on cryptocurrency tax reporting, showing that over 17,600 people declared around $1.9 billion in gains tied to crypto in the 2024-2025 tax year.
Of those, 240 individuals reported more than $1.4 million each in capital gains from digital assets, totaling approximately $975 million combined.
The HM Revenue and Customs data also revealed that 'disposal' of crypto assets, including sales or trades, reached a staggering $18.7 billion during the same period.
In a statement, James Murray, Financial Secretary to the UK Treasury and Paymaster General, emphasized the importance of paying taxes on crypto gains just like any other type of gain.
