UK Cryptocurrency Millionaires Dominate Taxable Gains with £717M
HM Revenue and Customs has released its first comprehensive analysis of cryptocurrency capital gains submitted by UK taxpayers for the 2024-25 fiscal year. The report shows that 17,600 individuals reported a combined £1.38 billion in taxable crypto asset gains during this period.
The data revealed significant concentration among high-net-worth crypto investors, with a select group of 240 taxpayers each disclosing cryptocurrency gains surpassing the £1 million threshold. This exclusive cohort collectively reported £717 million in gains, representing approximately 52% of the total £1.38 billion figure.
A demographic analysis showed a substantial gender disparity among cryptocurrency tax filers, with approximately 87% identifying as male and females accounting for just 13%. The report also highlighted that these statistics emerged as the United Kingdom's Cryptoasset Reporting Framework enters its operational stage.
