UK Government Vows to Stick with Good Friday Agreement Despite Trump's Comments

Share

UK Housing Secretary Angela Rayner dismissed US President Donald Trump's comments on a united Ireland, saying her government remains committed to the Good Friday Agreement. When asked about Trump's remarks during his visit to Dublin, she played down their significance.

"Donald Trump is Donald Trump, and the president will say and speak his mind as he sees it," Rayner said.

The UK government has confirmed its commitment to the Good Friday Agreement, which aims to bring peace and stability to Northern Ireland. Rayner's statement suggests that Trump's comments are unlikely to have a significant impact on the UK's stance on Irish unification.

However, the housing secretary did acknowledge that her government may struggle to meet its target of building 1.5 million new homes by the next election. She cited rising construction costs and international headwinds as factors making it harder to achieve this goal.

Rayner also announced plans to cap political donations after Reform UK received £72 million from two crypto-billionaires, highlighting concerns about the influence of wealthy donors in politics.
