UK Grants Ripple Temporary Crypto Approval Ahead of New Regulations

Share

Ripple's UK subsidiary has secured registration with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) under money laundering regulations, allowing certain cryptocurrency activities but not full financial services authorization.

The registration was granted to Ripple Markets UK Ltd. on Friday, which gained approval under Money Laundering Regulations that have governed cryptocurrency firms since 2020.

However, this is only a temporary measure as the UK will introduce new comprehensive regulations in October 2027, requiring all cryptocurrency firms to reapply for authorization by September 2026.

This means existing registrations under money laundering rules will not automatically convert to full financial services authorization, and companies must secure new approvals to continue operating.
