UK Man Recovers $4.4M in Bitcoin After 12-Year Exchange Custody Nightmare
A British man identified as 'Chris' has finally recovered his Bitcoin stash after a 12-year legal fight. In 2011, Chris invested in 61 BTC through Intersango, then known as Britcoin, which was one of the first UK exchanges to offer pound-based bitcoin trading. At the time, the price of Bitcoin hovered around $0.22 and $21.63.
Chris did not withdraw his investment from exchange custody, a decision that proved costly when Intersango shut down in 2014, leaving customers without access to their funds. His investment had doubled, but he lost hope of recovering it as Bitcoin prices continued to rise.
Avoiding scams and disregarding emails from the exchange's founders, Chris contacted CEL Solicitors, a law firm that specializes in recovering lost cryptocurrency. After four months of negotiations with U.S. courts, the firm successfully recovered Chris' cryptocurrency, now worth $4.4 million.
