UK Politics: Crypto Billionaires Fuel Controversy with Record Donations to Reform UK

Share

Crypto billionaire Ben Delo has donated £36 million to Reform UK, an anti-immigration party led by Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage. This is tied for the largest donation ever made to a British political party.

Fellow crypto investor Christopher Harborne matched Delo's donation on Saturday, giving £36 million as well.

Reform UK has surged in public opinion polls by criticizing the failure of successive governments to stop migrant boats arriving in Britain and campaigning for stricter asylum laws. The party won 1,453 seats on local government councils in England during recent elections, topping all other parties.

The Liberal Democrats have called on Prime Minister Andy Burnham to cap donations to prevent billionaire businessmen from corrupting the electoral process.
