UK Ranks Third in Bitcoin Adoption Despite Holding Seized Cryptocurrency
The UK has been ranked third in global bitcoin adoption, according to a recent assessment by blockchain company JAN3. The 2025 B20 Index gave Britain a score of 6.44 and a BB rating, behind the United States with 7.42 and Bhutan with 6.64.
The ranking takes into account various factors, including national bitcoin holdings, state-level mining, legal environment, strategic stockpile policy, pro-bitcoin leadership, and usability within the economy.
However, the UK's high score is not due to holding a significant portion of its bitcoins as reserves. Instead, over 60,000 BTC are held by authorities in connection with a major investment fraud and money laundering case.
