Ukraine Cracks Down on Cryptocurrency-Linked Money Laundering Network
A complex money laundering and terrorism financing network has been exposed in Ukraine through a cryptocurrency exchange. The State Financial Monitoring Service discovered that about $13 million was processed through a Ukrainian's account on the exchange, with part of these funds linked to entities in the Russian Federation and the IRGC.
The investigation found that the account owner used various methods to conceal their activities, including VPN services. Subsequent transfers were made to non-custodial cryptocurrency wallets of individuals linked to the Russian Federation and Iran.
The State Financial Monitoring Service claims that this person is connected to 35 organizations in various jurisdictions, which may indicate traces of a transnational money laundering and sanctions evasion network.
