Ukraine Strikes Sanctioned Cargo Ships, Targeting Iranian-Russian Supply Chain

A recent drone strike by Ukraine has targeted two sanctioned cargo ships and a Russian missile boat in the Caspian Sea, disrupting what Kyiv claims is Iran's main military supply pipeline to Russia. The strikes occurred on July 25, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky calling the results 'very strong.'

The targeted vessels, Port Olya 2 and Begey, carry sanctions from several countries, including the US, UK, Canada, and Ukraine. One sailor was killed and another injured in the attack, according to Iran's Foreign Ministry.

This is not the first time Ukraine has targeted Caspian infrastructure - earlier strikes in April hit oil platforms and related facilities in the same region. The strike highlights the ongoing efforts by governments to identify and prevent cryptocurrency-facilitated sanctions evasion in conflict zones.
