Ukraine's Post-War Rebuild May See Bitcoin Mining Role
Ukraine's post-war reconstruction efforts may see a role for Bitcoin mining in addressing its energy needs. With an estimated $588 billion rebuild bill, including nearly $91 billion for energy recovery, the country is facing significant challenges in restoring its damaged electricity system.
The Bitcoin Policy Institute estimates that 750 MW of stranded power could generate about $1 billion over five years. A smaller-scale example shows promise: a 20 MW mining site absorbed 83% of curtailed wind power and lifted revenue by 32%. By operating near power plants, miners could act as flexible buyers of stranded electricity.
This approach is seen as particularly relevant during reconstruction, given the scale of Ukraine's energy damage. Miners could consume excess energy while supporting grid flexibility, scaling back usage when demand rises elsewhere.
