$UNI Price Rises Amid Controversy Over V4 Fee Switch
Uniswap CEO Hayden Adams has dismissed the opposition to the protocol fee switch on V4 as 'FUD' and 'made-up maths.'
Adams claims that fees collected by liquidity providers (LPs) are not subtractive, but rather addictive, meaning their revenue isn't touched. This contradicts earlier claims that LPs would see a 25% cut in fees.
Liquiduity Providers (LPs) provide liquidity to the decentralized exchange (DEX), helping facilitate smooth trading experiences and earning money from trader fees. However, they also come with risks, such as capital loss, which some critics argue is unsustainable under the new fee structure.
Some LPs have criticized the fee switch, stating it's 'horrible' and will disproportionately affect them, leading to a ripple effect on traders and potentially impacting Uniswap's revenue and buyback program. Curve Finance founder Michael Egorov agrees with these critics, noting that higher fees can decrease volumes, ultimately affecting LPs.
Gamma Strategies, another LP who voted against the fee switch, questioned the use of protocol fees for $UNI buybacks and burns, suggesting it's a poor use of capital for a growth-stage company. However, Uniswap's price has risen 10% in the past 48 hours despite the controversy.
