Unicoin and Uniswap Labs Engage in High-Profile Trademark Dispute

Unicoin and Uniswap Labs are locked in a dispute over the use of the UNICOIN name. The conflict began when lawyers for Uniswap sent three demand letters to TransparentBusiness, which operates under the Unicoin brand, accusing it of trademark infringement, dilution, cybersquatting, and unfair competition.

The letters, dated June 3, July 17, and August 14, demanded that Unicoin stop using the UNICOIN name, transfer the unicoin.com and unicoin.org domains, disclose revenue and profit figures, and reimburse Uniswap's legal costs. Unicoin rejected these demands and has since filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

The lawsuit seeks a declaration that Unicoin's use of the UNICOIN name does not infringe on Uniswap's rights to the UNI, UNISWAP, and UNICHAIN trademarks. Unicoin is also asking the court to cancel the U.S. trademark registration for UNI.

The dispute emerged just weeks before the public launch of the UNCN token, scheduled for September 28. At the time the lawsuit was filed, the Uniswap protocol ranked first among decentralized exchanges by daily trading volume, exceeding $3.9 billion.
