Unicoin Sues Uniswap Labs Over UNI Trademark Registration Dispute
Unicoin, a company that does business as TransparentBusiness Inc., has filed a lawsuit against Uniswap Labs, which operates under the name Universal Navigation Inc. The complaint, filed in the Southern District of New York, seeks declarations that Unicoin's UNICOIN mark does not infringe or dilute Uniswap's claimed marks.
The UNICOCN mark is used by Unicoin for its products and services, including a token set to launch on September 28. Uniswap, however, has accused Unicoin of trademark infringement, dilution, cybersquatting, and unfair competition in three demand letters sent between June 3 and August 14.
Unicoin argues that its UNICOIN mark does not infringe or dilute Uniswap's claimed UNI, UNISWAP, and UNICHAIN marks. The company is also seeking a declaration that the unicoin.com and unicoin.org domains do not violate the federal Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act.
Unicoin's complaint comes as DeFiLlama ranked the Uniswap protocol first among decentralized exchanges by 24-hour volume, with more than $3.9 billion in transactions.
