UniCredit Explores Broader Digital Asset Plans
Italian bank UniCredit is exploring opportunities to expand its digital asset business through custody and brokerage services. The bank is considering tokenized investments, fixed-income assets, and stablecoins.
The move aligns with Europe's expanding MiCA framework, which establishes common requirements for crypto-asset services and stablecoin issuers across the European Union.
UniCredit has already shown interest in digital assets through its participation in Qivalis, a European banking consortium developing a euro-denominated stablecoin. The bank issued Italy's first tokenized minibond on a public blockchain and partnered with Fireblocks to provide infrastructure for tokenization and wallets.
The bank is evaluating technology providers capable of supporting digital asset custody and trading, but has not made a final decision on the provider or specific services.
