UniCredit Seeks Tech Partner for Crypto Trading and Custody
Italian bank UniCredit is searching for a technology partner to help it build infrastructure for digital asset trading, custody, and access to tokenized investment products. The discussions are in their early stages, with areas of interest including crypto custody, brokerage capabilities, and stablecoin-based fixed-income securities.
The bank's move follows similar efforts by other major banks, such as U.S. Bank and Standard Chartered. U.S. Bank recently completed a live cross-border payment using its proprietary USBDC stablecoin, while Standard Chartered launched spot Bitcoin and Ether trading for institutional clients in the UAE.
UniCredit has approached several technology providers to fill this infrastructure gap, but no deals have been announced yet. The bank's efforts are part of a growing trend among banks to explore digital assets and stablecoins.
