Uniswap Burns Record $590K in UNI on August 21
Uniswap has set a new record for daily UNI burns by dollar value, reaching $590,000 on August 21. The majority of this came from Ethereum, which contributed approximately $267,000 to the total burn. However, Base and Robinhood Chain also made significant contributions, with Base accounting for around $165,000.
This record is notable because it demonstrates the effectiveness of Uniswap's burn architecture in converting protocol fees into UNI supply reduction. The mechanism works by routing fees through fee adapters into a TokenJar, where they are accumulated until an external participant burns a specified amount of UNI to claim them. This process is known as Firepit.
The expansion of the burn system beyond Ethereum's mainnet has also contributed to this record. Uniswap's governance proposal in March extended protocol fees across Base, Arbitrum, OP Mainnet, and several other networks, allowing for more diverse contributions to the burn pool.
