Uniswap Founder Predicts Tokenization Will Disrupt Traditional Market Structures
Hayden Adams, the founder of Uniswap, believes tokenization could revolutionize traditional market-making structures and position automated market makers (AMMs) at the center of global financial markets. In a recent post on X, Adams argued that tokenization represents more than just an infrastructure upgrade, it's a fundamental shift in how liquidity is provided and which assets are traded.
Uniswap's AMM technology already facilitates billions of dollars in daily transactions, but Adams sees significant room for development. According to the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), AMM-based decentralized exchanges process over $10 billion in digital asset trades each day.
The scale of tokenized assets is expanding rapidly. As of January 2026, approximately $18 billion in distributed real-world assets, excluding stablecoins, were hosted on public blockchains, an 18-fold increase compared to 2022. Tokenized US Treasuries dominate this market, with BlackRock's BUIDL fund holding more than $2 billion, or nearly a quarter of all tokenized Treasuries.
Regulatory clarity is emerging across multiple jurisdictions, shaping a friendlier environment for digital and tokenized assets. The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has disclosed that it has tokenized assets in its depository for live production trading with more than 30 financial institutions, a significant development as the DTCC plans to formally launch its tokenization services in October 2026.
