Uniswap Labs' $467M Bet on Pons Ignites DeFi Frenzy
Pons, a token platform, has been on a tear after Uniswap Labs purchased it. The company disclosed the transaction through its X account on September 3rd, describing it as 'long-term alignment'. This move strengthened the connection between Pons and Uniswap, with Pons V2 integrating Uniswap V4 hooks.
The purchase has sparked conversations about a potential DeFi season, with analyst Cryptoskull predicting that the market could experience its biggest DeFi season since 2021. Ethereum ecosystem exposure is seen as a trillion-dollar opportunity amid DeFi's expansion.
Pons' price surged 35% after the announcement, reaching a new all-time high of $0.75 before retracing to $0.64 at press time. The token entered CoinMarketCap's top 100 with a $467 million market capitalization and a trading volume of $139 million.
Speculative activity climbed alongside the price, with Open Interest surging 64% to $74.8 million and Derivatives Volume rising 63% to $308 million. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) climbed to 91, placing Pons deep in overbought territory.
