Uniswap's $3.7 Trillion Trading Volume Yields New Framework for UNI Value Capture
Uniswap's Protocol Revenue and New UNI Value Capture Framework
The largest decentralized spot exchange, Uniswap, has undergone significant changes with the UNIfication reform. As of August 8, 2026, Uniswap has processed approximately $3.7 trillion in cumulative trading volume, generating around $5.1 billion in cumulative trading fees.
Before the UNIfication Reform, operational duties were shared between Uniswap Labs and the Uniswap Foundation, while UNI governance controlled protocol-level decisions and resources. The reform transferred some ecosystem development and growth responsibilities to Uniswap Labs, establishing a cooperative relationship between Labs and the governance system.
The economic model connecting trading fees to the UNI token has also been revamped. Protocol fees were activated, with a portion of trading fees converted into protocol revenue, linked to reductions in UNI token supply through a programmatic burn mechanism.
