Universal Exchange Model Gains Momentum in Crypto Industry
Bitget CEO Gracy Chen says the era of pure crypto exchanges is over. In an interview, she stated that platforms must expand into traditional assets and compliance-driven models to remain competitive.
Crypto exchanges have been growing rapidly, but Chen warns that this growth may moderate as ETFs and platforms like Robinhood absorb incremental demand. She expects Bitcoin prices and stablecoin adoption to continue rising, but is cautious about altcoins, stating that 'I don't think the pure crypto-native altcoin market is going to grow that much.'
Chen believes exchanges that fail to diversify into new asset classes and financial products risk stagnation. Bitget has repositioned itself as a Universal Exchange, offering crypto alongside U.S. equities and other global assets tradable via stablecoins.
The transition to Universal Exchanges is operational, not cosmetic, according to Chen. She emphasized that compliance is crucial and requires trade-offs, citing the example of Bitget's decision to exit France and Germany due to regulatory complexity.
