Unregulated US Online Gambling Booms, Reaches $97 Billion
The US online gambling market reached $125.6 billion in revenue for 2025, according to a report from the Campaign for Fairer Gambling (CFG). This is a significant increase of 38% compared to the previous year's $90.1 billion. However, what's even more striking is that $97.4 billion of this total comes from unregulated operators, accounting for 77% of the market.
The regulated sector, on the other hand, saw a growth rate of just 23%, generating $28.3 billion in revenue. This has led CFG founder Derek Webb to call for stronger enforcement and monitoring of illegal online gambling activities. He warns that regulators need to prioritize tackling unregulated operators before expanding the regulated market.
The report also highlights the issue of cross-border targeting, with many unregulated operators actively targeting European audiences. In Europe, the estimated revenue from unregulated online gambling reached €91.6 billion in 2025, resulting in a potential loss of €22.9 billion in taxes for EU governments.
