Upbit Unleashes Six Altcoin Tsunami in Bitcoin and Tether Markets
Upbit, South Korea's dominant cryptocurrency exchange, has taken a bold step into the world of altcoins by listing six new assets in both Bitcoin (BTC) and Tether (USDT) markets. The sudden move on August 10 caught traders off guard as the exchange opened trading pairs for Cysic (CYS), Impossible Cloud Network (ICNT), Anoma (XAN), OpenEden (EDEN), AIOZ Network (AIOZ), and Allora Network (ALLO).
The listed assets span a diverse range of sectors, including compute marketplaces, decentralized infrastructure, and machine intelligence. Cysic is building a ComputeFi ecosystem, while Impossible Cloud Network is developing a DePIN-based cloud infrastructure project. Anoma offers a decentralized operating system that connects multiple blockchains.
Two of the listed networks, AIOZ and Allora, sit at the intersection of decentralized infrastructure and machine intelligence. AIOZ combines blockchain with physical node infrastructure for content delivery and storage, while Allora's machine intelligence network coordinates AI model outputs without centralized oversight.
The listing pairs are notable for being against BTC and USDT, not Korean won, indicating a push to deepen the exchange's crypto-native market structure. Regulatory risk also looms large, as South Korea's approach to token oversight remains strict, and Upbit has previously delisted assets that fail to meet disclosure or investor protection thresholds.
While the move reinforces Upbit's role as a kingmaker for altcoin visibility in Asia, it remains to be seen whether these newly listed networks can move beyond exchange-driven interest. The sudden listing cycle may inject liquidity into low-cap tokens but also exposes new users to technical complexity they may not fully understand.
