Uphold Prepares to Launch Earn on XRP Yield Service for 1.62 Billion Tokens
Uphold, a U.S.-based cryptocurrency exchange, is gearing up to launch Earn on XRP, a yield service aimed at holders of the popular digital asset. According to Paul Underwood, Uphold's chief product officer, the feature has entered its final development stage and will soon be available to users.
The core issue with implementing a native staking mechanism for XRP is that the XRP Ledger does not directly support it. Unlike Ethereum or Solana, the XRP Ledger lacks a built-in staking-style reward structure, forcing Uphold to explore alternative methods such as DeFi lending protocols or partner networks.
Underwood confirmed that Uphold is reviewing options for wrapping tokens through Exactly Protocol and Flare Network, which would allow users to earn returns on their holdings within a regulated platform without moving assets to complex third-party DeFi platforms. The actual product structure and interest rate have not been disclosed, but Uphold has promised to release official terms and interest rates within the next few weeks.
