US Bank Pilots Cross-Border Stablecoin Payments on Stellar
US Bank has successfully completed a live cross-border payment pilot using its proprietary U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin, USBDC. The transaction took place on the Stellar public blockchain network and demonstrated that the lender can move its own token between bank entities across borders while maintaining established financial controls.
The pilot involved moving value between US Bank entities in North America and Europe, but both ends of the transaction remained within the bank's corporate structure. This limits what the result establishes: it demonstrates an internal cross-border payment on Stellar, but not settlement with an outside bank, merchant, or retail customer.
US Bank tested four functions as part of the pilot: minting, payment redemption, freezing, and clawback. These controls give the issuer ways to halt or reverse token movement when required, allowing US Bank to test its ability to intervene in exceptional situations while using public blockchain infrastructure.
