US Bank Runs Successful Cross-Border Stablecoin Pilot on Stellar
US Bank has successfully completed a live cross-border payments pilot using its proprietary USBDC stablecoin on the public Stellar network. The test involved transferring value between US Bank entities in North America and Europe, exercising key stablecoin controls like minting, redemption, freezing, and clawback.
The pilot validated US Bank's internally developed Digital Asset Platform, which connects tokenized assets and stablecoin operations with existing banking risk, compliance, and operational systems. The bank emphasized that the platform can integrate stablecoin workflows with traditional bank controls.
US Bank is now exploring additional use cases for its USBDC stablecoin, including cross-border treasury operations, liquidity management, and moving collateral onchain. This marks a significant step forward in the institution's digital asset efforts, which began with stablecoin issuance testing on Stellar since at least November 2025.
The bank's focus on integrating stablecoins with traditional banking infrastructure highlights a recurring theme in institutional adoption: the technology itself is only part of the story. The ability to integrate with compliance, governance, and operational monitoring often determines whether a pilot can progress into a repeatable product.
