US Banking Associations Unite to Launch Nationwide Blockchain Network by 2027

Share

US banking associations have formed an alliance to develop a nationwide blockchain network. The BankChain Alliance, which comprises 39 state banking associations, aims to launch the network by 2027.

The planned use cases for the network include smart payment tools, tokenized deposits, stablecoins, and automated settlement. The alliance wants the system to be interoperable with other blockchains and is currently selecting a technology partner.

While the announcement did not specify which individual banks have committed to participate, the participating associations represent thousands of financial institutions across the United States.

The BankChain Alliance joins multiple US bank-led initiatives developing onchain rails for regulated deposits and payments. The network's inclusion of stablecoins alongside tokenized deposits and settlement automation reflects a broader trend in which dollar-linked assets are increasingly discussed as plumbing within banking infrastructure.
