US Banks Get Green Light for Crypto Activities Without Special Approval
US banking regulator OCC has relaxed its stance on banks engaging in cryptocurrency and stablecoin activities. The new policy allows financial institutions to manage crypto assets, participate in stablecoin activities, and verify nodes without special pre-approval.
This marks a significant shift from earlier policies, which had required banks to meet specific conditions before engaging in crypto-related activities.
According to Acting Comptroller of the Currency Rodney E. Hood, 'banks will still need to demonstrate appropriate risk controls' when participating in these activities.
The OCC has eliminated a requirement that previously forced banks to obtain explicit regulatory clearance before legally participating in cryptocurrency activities.
