US Banks Unite for Nationwide Blockchain Network by 2027
US banking groups have announced plans to create a nationwide blockchain network by 2027. The BankChain Alliance, comprising 39 state banking associations, aims to build an industry-owned blockchain network for banks. This will enable smart payment tools, tokenized deposits, stablecoins, and automated settlement.
The network is expected to be interoperable with other blockchains and will invite banks nationwide to take ownership of stakes. However, the announcement did not mention individual banks that have committed to joining or disclose how the network will be governed or funded.
This initiative joins several US bank-led networks announced since late 2025, including The Clearing House's onchain money initiative supported by major lenders such as JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America. Regional lenders are pursuing a separate network through Cari, which has already launched a minimum viable product in March.
